You're in a tough situation. My husband will have the same difficulties when he get home from prison as well. Most employers are legally able to discriminate against people with a felony on their criminal record without question.

However, I would encourage you to contact a temp agency and explain your situation. Grab a phone book and look up companies that work in areas that have nothing to do with what you were convicted for. Just fill out applications every where and then do follow up calls to schedule an interview. With most individuals, about 2 out of 10 applications may end up with an interview.

Its tough when you are trying to move forward in life. But give it your best and I'm rooting for you!

Fast food, landscaping, any general labor
FEMA director. There is absolutely no background check done. Qualifications do not matter. But you do need to donate money to the RNC.
no one seems to check on landscapers.
It all depends on the agency, however most places do check. Just be honest on your application, the agency will also look at when the crime occurred, the punishment, and any changes that have resulted on your part, such as attending rehab, etc.
Avoid any jobs with the government. Jobs in the private sector are more forgiving of mistakes made in the past.

Good luck.
most jobs that pay minimum wage do not check backgrounds. try fast food restaurants, customer service/telemarketing positions, small office jobs like secretary, gardener. stay away from big corporations and government jobs. good luck! this can be tough sometimes.
Nope. With how easy it is to do a background check, and the ever increasing fear for safety, pretty much anyone will do AT LEAST a criminal background and driving records check. It won't automatically disqualify you, just make sure you're honest and apply for somewhere that states plainly in their site that they're an "equal opportunity employer" (yes, this is about race/gender, but most places that are concerned with that kind of thing also won't discriminate against people who are trying to get their lives back on track.) My first choices would be to go to places like Wal-Mart, KMart, etc. Be sure to talk to whoever works in personnel or a manager, and tell them that you are willing to work hard, that you did make a mistake but you're trying to do the right thing now, etc. Good luck!
Fast food, landscapers, some construction positions. Some states offer special programs for people in such situations. You should check into that.
